Dr. Asrar Ahmed

MB, BS, ECFMG(USA), MD, MRCP, DM, CCT, UK

Interventional Cardiologist

Dr Asrar Ahmed works as a consultant interventional cardiologist at East Kent Hospitals University NHS trust and is an Honorary consultant at Kings College Hospital, London.

He obtained a medical degree in India, followed by extensive training in internal medicine (MD) and cardiology (DM) at a renowned tertiary care centre in northern India. Following this, he joined London Northwest Healthcare at Northwick Park Hospital as a cardiac research fellow where he advanced his expertise in echocardiography, earning BSE accreditation in transthoracic echocardiography and gaining proficiency in contrast echo, stress echocardiography (exercise treadmill/bike and pharmacological using dobutamine and adenosine, myocardial contrast echocardiography), and transoesophageal echocardiography.

He completed cardiology training at the prestigious London North-West Thames Cardiology Training Program, where he trained at esteemed institutions in London: Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, Royal Brompton Hospital, and Harefield Hospital, subspecialising in interventional cardiology. He was selected for an interventional cardiology fellowship at Harefield Hospital, where he honed his expertise in interventional cardiology, specialising in percutaneous coronary interventions, cardiogenic shock, and valvular heart disease. His training included complex high-risk PCI, coronary physiology, and intracoronary imaging techniques like OCT and IVUS. He also gained advanced skills in mechanical circulatory support devices (IABP, Impella, ECMO) and procedures such as rotational atherectomy, intravascular lithotripsy, and laser therapy. Additionally, Dr. Ahmed developed expertise in managing heart valve diseases, participating in multidisciplinary heart valve teams, and performing procedures like TAVI, PFO closures, and permanent pacemaker implantation.
